New: Evening Group

Do you work during the daytime?

Is travel a challenge for you?

Want to experience Mindful Art Club in the comfort of your own home?

We have the easy solution!

We are launching a new evening group on Zoom.

A supportive online meeting offering creativity, company and social connection: A short mindful meditation and an easy art project.

About this event

No art experience required! Friendly and informal. Just grab a coffee and join in. Hosted by south Devon artists Peggy Melmoth and Emma Sprawson.

Tuesdays 7.00pm – 8.00pm.

Connect with others, share your experiences of COVID-19, and discover new ways of practising self-care through easy art and mindfulness exercises. Practice being here in the present moment, and accept where you are right now, without self-judgement.

We start with a brief chat about how everyone is feeling, then a short guided mindfulness session, followed by a simple art activity that anyone can do. Our mission is to make mindfulness more fun! We’re not teaching art techniques, we’re just here to play.

You will need any pen, felt tips, some plain paper and a cup of tea or coffee.

You will also need to download Zoom, free video-conferencing software, to your computer, tablet or smart phone, before the day. https://zoom.us

After payment you will receive an email from Eventbrite saying, “Check the event page for all the information you need to join.” The link in that email will take you to a page with the Zoom invite. *Check your spam folder, notifications folder or promotions tab for the email!*

Our Plans For Lockdown

November Lockdown: We have made the difficult decision to postpone our in-person meetings for the moment. We will continue to offer our weekly online group via Facebook and Zoom every Tuesday at 10am. Participants can watch live on Facebook, or message us for the Zoom link.  Let’s stay connected! Our Facebook page is Facebook.com/MindfulArtClub

Wellbeing Course Postponed

We are still taking bookings for our new wellbeing course at Plympton Rees Wellbeing Hub. However, the start date has been postponed to Tuesday 8th December 2020

We hope to be back in the community offering support, mindfulness and art as soon as possible.

Keep safe.

[Video] How to Draw a Mandala

  • What are the benefits of drawing a mandala?
  • What are the spiritual origins of mandalas?
  • What can mandalas symbolise or represent?

Find out now, in this video micro-lesson, with Peggy and Emma.

In this short excerpt from a Mindful Art Club Zoom session, we draw mandalas using household objects, and show you some examples of both simple designs, and complicated designs, for inspiration.

You can share your mandala with us at www.facebook.com/mindfulartclub

Plymouth Art Group Eases Isolation

Do you live in Plymouth and feel isolated in lockdown?

Are you feeling cut off from your social support network?

Have your usual support services been suspended while the NHS responds to the coronavirus crisis?

You may like to try watching our live-stream art group.

Our groups offer a “check in” to share how individuals are feeling, a short, guided, mindful meditation, a mindful drawing exercise, an easy art project, and an opportunity for chatting and social connection. These are an adaptation of groups we were holding in the community in pubs and cafes, before COVID-19.

We are currently, voluntarily, delivering three groups per week using Zoom video software and Facebook Live. Viewers can join in by video chat, or by commenting on Facebook.

The local services on which mental health patients rely, have been suspended as resources are diverted to deal with the virus. Many other services across the NHS have also been closed. We have gathered several written testimonials from users of our service, before and after COVID-19. who have said our continuing mindful art club as an online source of support has been vital to their mental health. Our groups have always aimed to combat social isolation.

Our online classes are already attracting hundreds of viewers and dozens of comments, with positive feedback that indicate we are succeeding in easing the sense of social isolation brought about by the current lockdown. Our first online class was broadcast live on Facebook on 18th March 2020; since then we have been getting about 1000 views per video. Our clients have reported feeling supported, and connected, enjoying the art, learning how mindfulness can calm anxiety, having time for self-awareness, and being able to chat openly without judgement. One of our clients told us,

“The group has been a god-send as it’s provided me with support on so many levels. It’s been so beneficial to my wellbeing, especially at this time of lockdown as all other lines of (cancer) support have been suspended. It’s a great source of support being able to connect with people who are also struggling with their mental health. The meditation and art has helped focus my mind and helped me to be calm and find inner peace. By the time the class has ended I feel positive and ready to take on the world knowing I am not alone.”
